what is book coaching?

Book coaching considers the whole author, providing technical skill advancement, accountability, emotional support, and creative guidance. It goes much deeper than traditional editing by providing the encouragement an author needs to finally finish their project. As a book coach, I deliver a combination of honest feedback and tough love that will help an author face their fears and get it done.

what can you do for me?

If you are at the planning stage of writing, I will help you develop your idea so you can start with a strong draft. We’ll work on structure, theme, character development and motivations, pacing, and more.

If you’ve already begun drafting, I’ll help you write forward by giving you accountability, emotional support, and feedback on every single page you write. I’ll be your project manager, guiding you to your final draft.

If you’re interested in trying to land an agent and a traditional publishing deal, I can help you create a strong pitch to capture an agent or editor’s attention. I also offer agent submission list development and research. I’ll be there to guide you every step of the way through project development and querying.

If you want to self-publish, I can help you through that process as well.

how is book coaching different from the conferences and workshops I’ve attended?

Conferences and workshops can be an amazing opportunity to expand your knowledge but are often crowded with writers of varying levels. What makes book coaching different is the one-on-one feedback you receive. You don’t have to sit through lectures designed for beginners or workshop your pages with other writers who aren’t at your level. Everything I do is focused on you. Your pages, your work, your vision.

how long will it take me to finish my novel?

Every writer is different. While I offer 6-month and 12-month packages, many authors will not finish their draft in this time. Time frames are dependent on writer goals. If you want to finish your first draft in six months and revise later, that plan will look much different (and go more quickly) than someone who wants to have a query ready draft by the time they’re done working with me. How quickly you write depends on how seasoned a writer you are, how much time you have to devote to your project, your creative vision, and many other parameters.

can you guarantee my success?

Nope. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees in publishing, so I can’t guarantee you’ll land an agent or a six-figure deal or a prominent spot on the NY Times Bestseller List. What I can guarantee is the feeling of accomplishment you’ll have once you’ve put in the work.

Middle Grade, Young Adult, Women’s Fiction, Romance, Thriller, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and more!

At this time I am not coaching non-fiction or memoir but am happy to refer you to a coach who does!

I’ve never been published before. Is book coaching for me?

Absolutely! As long as you’re willing to learn, accept feedback, and work hard, coaching is for you. If you’re looking for someone to do the hard work for you, pat you on the back, and make false promises, I’m probably not the coach for you.

I’ve published several best sellers. is book coaching for me?

Absolutely! Book coaches are often considered part of an author’s creative team, just like agents and editors. We offer one-on-one support throughout your creative journey.

I’ve had a bad experience with a book coach before. How are you different?

Hiring a consultant is definitely a risk. I encourage you to spend some time perusing my website and getting to know me. My strongest desire is to see a writer succeed. I promise to always provide honest feedback, and my tough-love style is not for everyone. If you’re ready to work hard and maybe encounter hard truths, I’m ready to help!

I’ve been there, and I’m uniquely qualified to guide you through the publishing world. I’ve also been coached myself and have attended numerous workshops and classes.
